No, I don't mean that there is a new actress being sent down from Heaven.
Mahesh Bhatt's new movie Jannat is not a sports story, a la Chak De India, although it does revolve around the concept of cricket and it's murky underbelly. The movie, starring Emraan Hashmi and newcomer Sonal Chauhan, is basically a love story (isn't it always?) about the risks that a man will take for his love and how far he will sink on that path...so basically, it's a typical Emraan Hashmi movie.
While it isn't known if he will kiss, but I can promise you a few gun fights as Emraan plays the character of Arjun, a man in love desperate to provide for his new future-wife, who starts out as a lowly card dealer and ends up in the seedy underbelly of cricket, becoming a successful bookie and finally having to choose between wealth and the love of his life.
I wonder if a record has been made for using the most clichés in a sentence, because I may have beaten it. Anyways, the main focus of the movie currently isn't the story (which is somewhat controversial, considering the amount of match fixing that goes on in the continent) but Emraan's new heroine.
Sonal is a former Miss India contestant and has appeared in many print and TV commercials for big brands, including LG and Hindustan Times. Speaking about her character in the movie, she says,
"I play a strong headed girl in the film, who is modern and totally against crime,"
So I'm guessing the movie doesn't have a happy ending? I have a new theory. Women who win Miss India, Miss World and Miss Universe pageants end up in Yash Raj productions. Girls who don't win end up in Bhatt productions. What you think?
