Well, this isn't some big shock but Warner Bros really doesn't appreciate their famous movie names being used. Although Bollywood movie Hari Puttar: A Comedy of Terrors has nothing to do with Harry Potter, the boy wizard, Warner Bros aren't risking any copyright infringement.
Hari Putter, starring Zain Khan and Jackie Shroff, is about a little boy that has to live with 10 other kids (I think the producers of Cheaper by the Dozen should be more worried) and has nothing to do with magic, school or anything Potter-related. The name Hari is quite a common name in India and Puttar means son in Punjabi...somehow, I don't think Hollywood is going to win this battle. Although Bollywood is infamous for ripping off story lines from Hollywood, this time the name of the movie is just an interesting variation of Harry Potter, without any copyright infringements intended.
A spokesperson for Warner Bros has stated,
"We have recently commenced proceedings against parties involved in the production and distribution of a movie entitled 'Hari Puttar,"'
They couldn't fight this battle six months ago? The producers of Hari Putter supposedly registered the name years ago and are annoyed that Warner Bros has a problem with it now, a few months before release.
Who will win, a mischievous Indian boy or a crazy wizard teenager with daddy issues?
