Isha Koppikar is tired of being the bit-role actress. She's decided that it's time to leave her 'item-girl' reputation and create a name for herself in her new movies. That's why she's working on Ram Gopal Verma's Shabari and in Aik Vivah Aise Bhi, she's seen in a completely Indian avatar with shalwar kameez's and choli's.
She speaks about Shabari and her preparation for the role, which required her to go to some extremes to understand the character.
"Shabari has been the most satisfying experience for me as an actress. The film was complete long back but its release has been on hold for quite some time now.
It is directed by debutant director Lalit Marathe who has written films for Ramuji like Bhoot etc. I am in a completely deglamorised role in this one.
I really feel sad that a film like this is stuck. I had worked so hard on the film. I did not comb my hair for days nor waxed my hands and legs.
I learnt how to run the flourmill since the role required me to do it. I lived in the slums for few days to get the hang of the role. The film has also been shot on real locations. Lalit had worked hard on the script of the film."
"I am so impressed by his work that I have been requesting him to write more such hard hitting subjects and cast me in them."
Isha seems to be a bit confused. Doing serious roles doesn't necessarily make someone a good actress or even a well-respected one. An actress has to show that she can actually act as a believable reflection of her character. But if she thinks hairy legs are the way to go, then good for her. But if you like her previous avatars, you may want to check out Money Hain to Honey Hain...I somehow doubt that she has hairy legs there...hirsute features don't really bring in the cash.
