Hi Folks,
Rather reluctantly I was forced to see Blue Umbrella. Reluctantly because I am not into children's film. I am more into the "give me the masala" type of a person. So as a group we started of with Krazzy4 and
then gave up on that crap after 12 minutes. Not having anything else, Blue Umbrella it was.
Surprisingly, it had my attention all along (and I have a very short attention span). I lost my attention many times in movies such as Namesake etc, so I was expecting to do the same here too, but nothing of that sort happened.
The acting by Pankaj Kapoor has got to be the best I have seen him perform. When we talk about fine male acting in India, the names that come to mind are AB, Naseer and Om, but now I can include Pankaj in that same category.
When I say good acting, I mean someone who can make you forget that you are looking at an actor and make you believe that you are looking at the character that is being portrayed and Pankaj does that with such aplomb.
The director Vishal Bhardwaj has one of the finest eyes for detail and this movie proves it all the more. The whole environment and the characterization is set up in such a way that for 2-3 hours, we start leaving our houses slowly and get sucked into the world that is unfolding on the screen in front of us.
The camera work is dazzling and makes one wonder why the need to go to places such as Switzerland, when the best of the best exists right here in the Indian interland and Vishal takes full advantage of that.
Shreya Sharma as the protagonist Binya is a show stealer but again that is because she is directed to such perfection.
In all the midst of gizmos and camera tricks and clicks, this one stands out for its simplicity, yet a compelling story line. So don't watch it 'cause it is a children's film and I am not into children's film, but I am into engaging films and this one engaged me all along.
Sincerely,
Vivek "peaceful co existence betweeen intelligent and masala Bollywood" Kumar
